Job Description

Big Data Engineer | Spark streaming | Scala | Betting & Gaming
Salary depending on experience

Fancy working in a cutting edge, technology led company, where you'll not only be involved in developing a brand new real-time analytics platform (Spark streaming, Kafka & Elasticsearch) but also R&D/tech innovation?

One of Europe's leading Betting & Gaming companies, with recent large scale investment in the shape of a new Data & Technology centre in London, are looking for Big Data Engineers at all levels to join their established team in Malta. You'll be joining there HQ where there are over 900 employees with 42 nationalities.

Whether you've come from a software engineering or data warehousing background, if you have production level Hadoop/Spark experience, this is an awesome opportunity.

As Big Data Engineer, you'll work as part of an exciting team on a world-class Big Data platform - they pride themselves on creating neat, efficient code and are looking for Engineers with a similar mindset.

They're already working with data at petabyte scale and as an online company, they're looking to provide near real-time analytics with some genuinely innovative use cases around marketing & promotions.

Your role will be to help develop their existing, production level Hadoop & Spark platform, as well as instigate technology innovation and investigation into new technologies, e.g. Flink/Beam.

You'll be programming initially in Java & Scala but expect to receive loads of training and a full move over to Scala over the next few months.

As a growing company, they offer a wealth of training and movement between teams - you'll likely become a cross-functional Data Engineer with plenty of exposure to Data Science & machine learning.

As Big Data Engineer, you'll have the following skills:

  • A strong Java/Scala programming background
  • Production level experience with a number of Big Data tools, most likely Hadoop or Spark
  • Experience with a variety of ETL tools, e.g. Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Flume
  • A passion for Big Data and an awareness of the impacts on the wider company
  • A keen interest in the wider Big Data market, including emerging technologies and vendors

  • A chance to work in an advanced environment with the latest technology, beyond just MapReduce
  • The chance to work with massive scale data issues
  • Travel to London to work with team who are based there
